Computer Overhaul

ok, so I've been thinking that since i have a socket 478 processor/motherboard without pci-e and I dont really have any good video card options with that combo, Im thinking about doing a complete overhaul of my current computer. My question is... which of the following setups would be best for doing alot of multi-tasking (aim, internet, writing papers, etc.) but also to play Counterstrike, Americas Army and other games. Here are the setups im currently looking at:

INTEL

or
AMD

or MAYBE 3700+
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130529

also, Im planning on installing a 500-550w power supply.

Im open to any suggestions on improvements, but would like to have more than 2 184 pin ddr slots and at least 1 pci-e 16x slot. I wouldnt like to spend any more on a mother board and cpu than the amd set up that is above.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in Advance,
Reggie

I'd go with the AMD setup, since it's best for games and pretty much any new processor can handle your multi-tasking needs.

DDR2 is just faster RAM, but it has it's downsides. Right now, games perform better on low-latency DDR400 than a high-latency DDR2-667.

ok thanks, so then going with the ddr 184 pin ram slots in the mobo would be better than getting a mobo with ddr2 240 pin ram slots..

Well right now AMD motherboards dont support DDR2, only DDR. But in 2 days they will support DDR2, if you dont mind waiting
