computer overheating

my computer is at the temperature of 54c, i use speed fan and it showing a little symbol of a flame, is it ok for my computer to be running at this temp? im transferring pretty large files from my internal to my external HD they are about 30gig. also i think my fan be be a little bust, as everytime i turn on my computer it makes a wurring noise and how can i check to make sure the fan is working properly? thanks in advance and what could i do to prevent this problem short term? ive also had the side of the case off which made it a little better but then it started to get worse. thanks in advance!!! :confused:
 
What temp is at 54C? Is it the processor, hard drive, system, video card, or something else?
 
54C is high for a hard drive, do you have any air circulation around the hard drive? The most common problem is that people either dont have a fan on the fron of the case, or they have so many wires that no air can move around the hard drive, thereby causing it to heatup.

And you can use SpeedFan or Everest to get the rest of you're temps.
 
i have air going in to the front and it comes out of the back but what i think may be a rpoblem is, my computer is in a small cupboard and thre doesnt really seem anywhere for the air to go. and plus its a hot day in the uk for a change and where my computer is is very hot. is taking the side of the case off a good idea or a bad idea? in general pratice?

I thought about doing this also, because I'm having the same issues. The other idea I had was to take a small fan and rig it so that it is directly out side the PC and blowing into the space where the PC, but I'm not to sure how much of a difference that would make.

you can buy hd cooling fans, some mount in the front of your bays others mount underneath your hd's. i have the type that mount underneath and all my drives are cool to the touch.
 
i dont know if i have any space to put them, what do they look like and wheere can you get them from? im based in thee uk also

how much is your CPU? cause if the hard drive is 54, then the CPU most be real hot....you can verify by using speedfan also.
 
i'm not sure.....on my speedfan you can see the CPU. euh, perhaps you can determine wich fan is on you CPU (fan 1, Fan 2, Fan 3 etc) and that might help.
Or do you want tp post a picture of speed fan opening page? like where you control your fans and the CPU usage %, and temparature, etc. that would be good.
 
no...siomply print screen, go to my picturs, paste, then save as. then you can post your pic. (you might want also to cut only the speedfan window, less space)
btw, what temparature those it shows in your bottom right screen? their should be a temparature....
