Computer {owers down on CD/DVD insertion

Everytime a CD or DVD disk is inserted into the DVD Ram Drive (whether data, photo, video or blank), the computer powers down. I have used various programs to search for a virus, trojan horse, etc., to no avail. OS is Windows XP up to date to this Tuesday's patches. Pentium 4 computer, LG DVD ram drive, GSA 4163B.
