CAUTION: NEWB ALERT

Okay I have a few questions... what is used for max performance when doing what?

Gaming: ? what helps when building gaming pcs ?

Office: ? What helps when building office computer ?

Media:? What helps for media watching computers?

Just very curious...

media watching computers i would assume monitor, video card, ram

gaming the same as media +a beefy processor

office..semi decent processor and bout a gig or so of ram...

Ok, I will answer in bold, and this is the basic parts you want for maximum performance in that said application. However, you must realize its not an end all be all answer, there are a ton of factors involved.

Vdieo card will give you the best performance increase

I am guess you mean doing tons of multi tasking in office like applications, for this memory would be best so you can run the most at once

Media:? What helps for media watching computers?
same as an office computer but with tons and tons of storage since digital media can fill up a 500 gig hard drive in no time, especially once you start ripping DVDs or tossing HD DVR videos on your drive

Just very curious...

You still always want to start with a stable foundations. Decent processor and decent motherboard. The rest is kind of just fill in the blanks. If you need 2 gigs of RAM, then put in 2 gigs, if you need 4 then use 4. Professional level applications like photoshop, maya, autocad, final cut, logic, pro tools, etc tend to need a higher end processor and memory. Gaming typically just needs enough RAM to keep the OS in check with some to spare and a good video card. Multimedia just needs a basic system with lots of storage space. It doesn't take a lot to play a movie or to listen to music, however when encoding the music or movie, it doing so with no compression then the higher your specs the faster it will rip it.

Make sense?
