Computer Power Issue

Hi all,

I have suddenly started having issues with my system and was wondering if anyone out there had seen something similar before. It was a self build about 12 months old.

If the computer powers down for any reason, shut down, hibernate, power save, it will not turn back on with the power button until I switch the power button off on the PSU for a few seconds. As soon as i turn it on the computer boots up without pressing the power button?!

Any help would be greatly received.

Regards
Andy

Possibility of 2 issues here.

1. Failing power supply.
2. Look in the bios for something similar to "system state after power failure" The most common setting is to have the system stay off.

May also be a bad motherboard, but more likely a bad power supply. What power supply have you got exactly? Make/model/wattage?

Thanks for the replies guys.

The power supply is a "650W SEASONIX X-650 MODULAR" as i mentioned only over a year old so should still be in warranty if that is the case.

Ill check the bios and see if there is anything in there but it doesn't seem to be a power failure, almost like it doesn't power down properly till you switch it off.

I have had a look in the BIOS and cannot find anything similar to that.

If anyone has any suggestions I would be grateful.

Try resetting the CMOS and/or the BIOS completely? May be worth a try. I still think you have a bad board, you've got a good power supply there.

I have reset the CMOS (I think) There is a button on the backpane that does it. I pressed it during boot and it asked do I want to load defaults, yes.

A bit more information playing around. There's a power button on the mobo, presumably works the same as the power button on the case. When there is power to the board it is lit. If I shutdown the pc as normal it stays lit and when pressed does nothing. If I turn the power supply off and wait for the power to drain, then back on the switch lights again, press it and nothing.

If I power down the supply for a few seconds before the switch lamp goes off then back on the system starts without pressing anything.

This is my board.

Does anybody have any further suggestions before I start swapping things out?

Changing the PSU will be easiest so I may start there.
