Computer power problem

i have a gateway gt5028 that i bought about a year ago. i recently bought an antec NEOHE500 psu to help out my bfg 7600gt vid card that ive had for a few months.. i hooked the new psu up and it turned on an everything ran fine. after a few hours of running i had to turn off the computer to hook somethings back up and go to turn it back on and nothing happened. the light flickers on for a second, nothing seems to power on. so i go to bed for the night and go to turn it on in the morning, turns on just fine. everytime i turn the computer off after it has been running it wont turn back on for hours afterwards. i hook up the old psu and it turns on just fine after its shut off. what could be the problem? the new psu bad or maybe not compatiable completely?? any help would be nice.

You know, I had almost the identical problem with a computer once... Using my first PSU, I'd get reboots in games. I swapped for another. It worked great, but then it wouldn't power on once I shut down. I'd have to flip the switch on the power supply to "reset" before it'd work again. I didn't have this problem with another power supply.

I'm pretty sure it would be the power supply, but what gets me is the store claimed both power supplies I returned were perfect... I don't beleive them, but whatever... Could you possibly exchange that PSU?

It may be a temp problem if the supply is good. If it's not a bad cap in the supply causing the problem you may some board problem like something running hot or bad caps there. Antecs are generally reliable but anything is possible.

yeah it is doing the same thing your psu was doing. my old one would crash during games so i replaced it. i can return it and i just might have to and see if another one does it. i just bought it 2 weeks ago from circuitcity.com.

i had the same problem, my IDE cable on my new CD rom was on upsidedown

and that stoped everything from powering up. it was quite funny because i went out and bought another one thinking that it was broken. i thought there was a little nub to stop you from putting it in wrong.

There's a locking one way tab on the ide cables. But the real problem on some or actually many optical drives is the opening is wider even while a small notch for the tab is seen you can still plug the cable in wrong. That's the lame brain way drive manufacturer's have the drive casings machined. You just have to verify things when plugging them in.
