computer powers off

I have a Pavilion Elite e9120y PC. At first the pc would run for about 10 minutes then power off. I took the case off and noticed that there was a lot of dust build up inside the case, so I went and bought a can of air and blew it out really good. I took the cpu fan off as well and cleaned under it. I put everything back together. Now when I power it up, it will run for about 2 minutes and then power off for about 2 seconds and then power back up again and continue over and over again.. also the monitor says "going to sleep" when I first power it up, the screen never comes on.

Could this be a motherboard issue?

You will need to remove any existing thermal paste with rubbing alcohol and reapply new.

Your CPU might be overheating and causing it to shut down in order to protect your components. Using Coffee Filters or cotton swabs, remove all the thermal paste residue from your CPU and heatsink both. Let it dry (which shouldn't take long as alcohol evaporates quickly), and then squeeze about a rice sized bit of thermal paste in the middle of the CPU. Then clamp down the heatsink on top of the CPU.

something else I have noticed. The little fan on the video card does not come on when the pc starts up. About a second before the 2 minute shutdown, the fan moves just a bit, and the pc completely shuts down.
Should the video card fan start running at start up?

Yeah that's not good. Have you blasted it out with air? Motor may have burned out. Overheating video card may be causing the problem as well.

My computer used to do this also... I simply removed the side cases and it's worked... My computer dosn't shutdown anymore

That could have been because your motherboard or something else was shorting on the case.

OP - I'd recommend removing your motherboard from the case and try running it on a cardboard box or something for a few hours, just to make sure the case isn't shorting on the board.
