computer rebooting

Hello.
can anyone help my daughter has a IBM computer running windows xp, it has just started rebooting for no apparent reason. She has made no changes to her computer, she is unable to do a virus scan as it reboots after 3.5 minutes.
Any help or advise would be grateful.

how do I fix this problem, if it is a hardware problem, when it restarts after 3.5 minutes. It is not much time to do a virus scan or a system restore.
 
It could be many things... My first guess would be a failing power supply, but that's just for starters. It could be software related, heat, hardware(RAM, hard drive, etc etc...)
