Computer restarts itself after Windows loading screens

Not sure if this is the right forum, this may be a hardware issue.

Basically, for a long while now, whenever I restarted my computer or sometimes turned it off, the computer seems to fail to get past "loading" the floppy disk, and as a result is on, but there is no display or anything.

Today I went on my computer in the morning, right clicked on MSN messenger, and it shut off. Now, whenever it gets past the Windows loading screens (this goes for Safe Mode as well), it simply restarts, and fails to load the floppy drive and there is no display. I have to manually turn the power off on the back of the computer, wait a little, and then power it back on, but it's always the same deal. I have Windows XP Professional.

What should I do? What can the problem be?

Well, I'm afraid that it might be a hardware problem. Like I said, when it restarts, the floppy drive doesn't even boot up, so there must be something wrong with the hardware as well. So a simple format + reinstall of Windows might not do the trick.

Hmm, I turned my computer back on after leaving it off, and it got into Windows. Maybe it overheated?

Even still, that problem where restarting it causes it to not load the floppy still exists. What could be the cause of that?

first reinstall the windows....
than in the BIOS make sure the tempretures are normal. And the first boot device(after the install) is HDD.
my question is if you use the Floppy?

@AzureNight

What's this constant obsession with the floppy drive?

It sounds like an overheating issue to me....

  • take the side panel off(power off first and switch off at wall socket)
  • press power button on front of case to discharge any residual power
  • touch the side of the PSU(power supply) NOT the CPU!! to earth yourself to avoid static discharge.
  • check all cable connections are seated properly
  • check that everything is dust free
  • leave side panel off and restart PC
  • check to see if all fans are spinning.
Please tell us what happened after ;)

"fail to get past "loading" the floppy disk"
i didn't understand that :)
for me it sounds like an OS problem...
After some time the user will tell... :)
