Computer ridiculously slow

My computer is quite old now, but I hardly load it with all the latest software, so I don't see why it should suddenly start being so slow. It's usually fine, but about 3-4 weeks ago it just started being so so slow. Takes about 10 minutes from start up to get on Firefox, and all other software runs at about 25% the speed it's supposed to. I even have to press Ctrl, Alt, Del and stop a couple of processes just so things run slightly better. I usually stop an audio process that is needed for video streams and sound editing software (but not Windows Media Player for some reason) so I spent most of my computer time with no sound on some things...

Download and run CCleaner Here And go through that program, its quite simple to use. Also uninstall the programs you don't use or need. If your PC is still fairly slow by then I would post a hijack this log in the security section of the forum.

If your computer is old, it might be a dust issue affecting the
cpu. Too much dust will mess up airflow and if that happens your CPU
will run hot, so if you're not afraid to open your box up and get one of those air in a can thingies, blow the dust off(especially on your heatsink), and also try and see how fast your fan is running and if the heatsink is fastened tight to the cpu.
If you think that is the issue, just replace it. That should solve your problem,
than ofcourse the usual little things like ram and defragmenting your system.

You could have a virus,

pls do the following:

* DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

We will look at your log as soon as we see it, and give you further instructions on how to fix your computer. Most of the time it will involve downloading more programs that will either give us logs to locate the malware or delete those malware.

Once you have posted a HJT Thread DO NOT make any changes to your PC unless the advisor helping you has instructed you to do so!
