Hi there,

My dell computer is running very very slow the computer is about 1 year old,

the spec is:

AMD 5000+
1GB ram
160 GB hard drive

i have scanned for spyware and virus and found nothing, Im using AVG and spybot both updated

and the computer is still running low

now sometime i have seen the CPU clock speed go down when its loading big programs but it goes down to about 995MHz and should be running at 2.6GHz

Does anyone know what would course this problem

Kind Regards

Malcolm Bishop

The low clock speed is Cool'N'Quiet, not sure about why your PC is slow though, maybe its time for a re-install?

Yeah check your process tree, how many do you have going at idle?

If you dont want to do a formatt/reinstall, try downloading ccleaner running that, and then open up add remove programs and uninstall all the cr*p you dont use any more.

This can work wonders on speeding up computers, also get a air compressor and blow out all the dust in your box (specially around the cpu/gpu fans).

Try this.

I would do as stildawn said as well as dougland. I have a Dell Dimention 8400 that's about 3-4 years old now, came with 1GB RAM, I too noticed it was running extremly slow, so I added 2GB more (3GB total) and it worked MUCH better.

unfortunatly, it's back to taking about 10 minutes to start up, but before it was 20..haha, but i have a feeling my computer is seriously infected.. :(

yeah i went just from 512mb on my setup to a 1gb now (keep in mind i am only running a celeron/biostar/cheapo build) and it was amazing.

my opinion

hi try deleting all ur cookies available in user , delete ur recent shortcuts available in ur recent folder similar to that of cookies, delete temp directory and
also the temporary internet files, this provides more space for ur ram usage
and system becomes improved for certain extent.

try this method for removing startup programs

start--->run--->type msconfig--->ok;

then go to startup tab and disable all checkboxes

restart ur system and c the performance

all the best:)

hint

if u want to do it in an easy way use uniblue power suite software for wat i recommended previously,

u can view a lot with that:)

Best options for you is to go to CCleaner website and download the latest version via FileHippo.com. Excellent program, massively improved performance on my old Acer Aspire 8000 series. I know reinstalling Windows can be a pain in the a*s, but if virus scanning, and C-cleaning doesn't work, just backup your data and reboot. Had to do this numerous times with my laptop, but am running a hell of a lot on one small machine, with cr*p spec too.
