computer runs slowly

maybe because you dont take the time to do something yourself, sort of like your posting above.

It could be a number of things. But first of all you should run a virus scan and look at how much disk space you have left on your hard drive. Also, run adaware to get rid of those annoying ad tracker programs.

defraging your harddrive might help a little, buying more ram will help, faster processor will help....

virus scans...

is it a new computer? it might just be slow....

you need to elaborate on your post man, nobody can help if they don't have a clue whats going on....

A number of things can slow down a system depending on how well it is maintained. If you have installed and removed a number of programs there are often leftover values in the system registry where a good cleaner can remove what is called "orphans" that often instruct drivers to load when no program remains to use them. After a lengthy period of time a drive can also become fragmented where the Accessories\System Tools includes a utility called Disk Defragmenter that recopies the fragmented portions of files and programs in order to organize faster access.

For a few free as well as shareware utilities in maintaining the quality of your current Windows installation and allow better performance one site comes to mind on this right away. First let's do some cleaning of the system registry with one called RegCleaner. http://www.majorgeeks.com/RegCleaner_d460.html After a download to the folder of your choice and installing it you simply go upto the explorer bar and select the Tools link for the dropdown menu there. The registry cleaner link opens another menu to the right side where you then scroll down to the "do them all" option to essentially cleanup all "orphans".
For an effective removal of any adwares that may be on your system go to http://www.lavasoft.com and download a free copy of AdAware SE Personal which has a high rating. That also will automatically update itself on a regular basis.
For an effective and free to use self updating antivirus program Grisoft's AVG 7.1 Free edition can found at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 :D

Is it ancient?
I dont know either.

Can I suggest something?
Maybe a little more detail. Specifications of your pc.

At this point a full list of hardwares as well as the operating system(s) if more then one and the types of programs you run(not every single one with name) will help in seeing you have a better performing system. Did your system suddenly start to slow down over a period of time? Or did you suddenly notice a rapid slowing of everything? would be other questions to ask here.
