Computer shut off problem

It took 3 hours on the telephone the other night talking to somone from Microsoft in believe it or not India to get SP3 downloaded right. Well afterwards now when I shut down the system shuts down and the monitor goes off but the computer sets there running with the hard drive light on. I have to manually reach back and throw the main switch to off on the rear of the computer, any ideas of whats going on?
Any help will be appreciated, thank you.

I had a similar problem to this but it went unsolved as I ended up purchasing a new computer within the same week the problem occured.

I think your computer system overheated.. or the new windows xp you've bought has some bugs.. Or my other guess is, it could be a virus
