Computer bugg***d?

Hi there,

Built a computer for a friend and had it set up and running at my house for days before handing it over. Everything was fine. After taking it to their house and setting it up the computer turns itself off very regular but after different length of times of been booted up. It will not turn back on unless you turn off the mains and turn it back on again. My friend keeps loosing college work.

Taken the computer off of them and brought it back home becuase i thought it may be a dodgy PSU or Motherboard..........

This is where it gets strange.........

At my house the computer is fine...............stays booted up for ever......and the only difference is that i am using my own keyboard, mouse and monitor instead of theirs.

As far as i'm aware none of these can cause the kind of problem that i have been having with it.

I have come to the conclusion that it must be something to do with the power supply to their house.......does anyone agree?

I am wondering if they are having some bad power surges or fluctuations in their supply.

What do you guys think? Anyone ever come accross this before? and do you think it would be worth getting one of these uninteruptable power supplies to sort the problem?

OR do you think it could be their monitor, keyboard or mouse causing the shutdown.

Your help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

Chris

to see if its there keyboard mouse or monitor, take yours round to there place to see if it still switches off all the time. it may be a hassle but itll elimate them from the equation. i know how annoying it is to keep losing college work. the same thinghappened to me but mine was the psu, clearly not in this scenario though. good luck fixing it, and let me know what the problem is incase the same thing happens to me.

hmm....yeah....will be a bit of a hassle but would eliminate them........i wouldn't have thought it could possibly be the mouse or monitor but the keyboard could be possible as it has the shutdown/sleeep hotkeys on it.

tbh, i wouldnt of thought it'd be any of them either (especially the mouse or keyboard), but theres only one way to find out . the only other thing i can think it would be is if something is loose inside the psu, but it seems to much of a coincidense that it lodges back into place round your house. sorry i cant be any more help. if i think of anything else ill post it straight away.
