Computer shuts down

Thanks for all the help. I simply unscrewed the fan/heat sink assembly, cleaned off the old paste with alcohol, and put down a new line of paste. The computer fan no longer races and it stopped shutting down. It is like having a new computer.

That was probably due to the fact that the CPU was throttling to keep temps down, which obviously wasn't working, because it was overheating and shutting off anyway. Just for reference, the best method for new thermal paste is a rice grain sized amount and mounting the heatsink, without any spreading or anything of that sort. You did good with the alcohol as well.
