Computer Shuts off unexpectedly

I have two problems:

One: The computer keeps turning off unexpectedly, the room and inside the computer is kept at around 65 degrees Fahrenheit and the power supply is 700 watt.

Two: My second problem is that i was installing windows, when i noticed that the setup is showing 131070 MB as the free space of the hard drive I stopped the formatting (I have a 500 GB hard drive). But now i cant start another formatting to see if that changes

hmm, do you have the case pins, and cpu/mobo and gpu connected correctly, also try downloading windows nomader how much mb it has i have a 500gb hard drive to and i prob have nearly as much as mb u do, you know 500gb and 131070mb are totally differnt its not 131076gig, so i think you shouldnt wory, but take out ur heat sink and put it back on, it could be a bad motherboard knowing that it shuts of even if room temperature and the heatsink is good but on the otherhand it could be your powersupply

I think s/he's saying that Windows Installer is showing about 130GB, and their HDD is 500GB.. something isn't right there.

Is it possible that your HDD has more than 1 partition? If so, that could explain why Windows Installer is showing 130GB where it's installing..

It is possible that one partition is primary and the other is not. This way, you would only see the primary partition is windows setup. Also, random shutdowns are often a driver issue.

Also, the shutting off thing could be sourced to an overheating problem within the cpu or another component. Would you mind using a program such as PC Wizard to monitor your temps, or even check your bios.

As to the hard drive problem, it could be that are are secondary partitions which are not seen in the windows setup. When you start up windows, can you see more than one hard drive?

i just built this computer, so i haven't installed windows previously or formatted the hard drive previously. The bios shows that the hard drive capacity is 500 GB. My power supply is 700 Watt, and i havent plugged something into every power supply socket.

Meh, faulty PSU... Mind telling us your PSU and system specs?

Blown capacitors on the motherboard... Overheating due to fan dying, or heavy HS and leaning to one side so its not touching the CPU...

I Assume you are Running Windows XP SP1.

Service Pack 1 does not support hard drives over 131Gb

You will need Service Pack 2.

Service Pack 2 Supports the larger Harddrives and it will show up as the full size when you go to reformat with SP2

Would you have to reformat, or just update? I'm pretty when I did it, I just updated. :S Maybe that was from xp to sp2... Hmmm..
