computer slow

i built another computer for my wife. She's giving her's to the grand daughter. im cleaning it up now. xp home, intell 2gig and .5 gig ram. wd 160 gig hd. ive pretty much stripped it butt naked down to xp. cleaned the reg with a few proggies like ccleaner and regseeker. rebooted took everything out of the startup. ran perfectdisk several times including dos. after restart then shutting down the computer takes forever. maybe a minute. ive uninstalled everything except windows. anybody with any ideas on what else to do before a wipe. i would like to avoid this.

actually i checked and it was two minutes.

all else fails back up data and reformat. but the ram needs upgrading. 512 is only enough to make xp breath slightly. 1gb will make it happier
