Ok. Ill talk you through how to do a repair.

Do you have a Windows XP Disk? (assuming your running windows XP)

its a very simple quesiton, one,i think some files missing was cause this problem, maybe u can reinstall the system again can slove this problem,if this can not help u to get througt this problem, maybe ur RAM words not normal,u can take it off can reload in,hoep u can get rid of ur problem.

Go into your BIOS settings by pressing F8 or Delete on start-up and seeing if all your components are working in order, if they are try re-installing Windows.

Williams and Dazzeerr,

You always try a Windows Repair before you jump into a Clean Reformat.

Doing a Clean Reformat, Wipes absolutely everything on his computer.

He may not want that.

A few system files may of been corrupt. I Repair could fix these.

Sure, I Re-Installation would be great, But Its mostly the files people do not want too lose.

+ The inconvenience of having to do everything over again.

As I Asked Before.

i do have a windows xp disk..

i dont really need anything off the computer.. so if i loose everything then it doesnt really matter.. i just need it for school work...

well. you then have two things to think about. if your coumputer was slow before, i would just wipe everything and start over. but you then need to install everything over again. or just repair and have it back to how it was

Reinstalling means deleting EVERYTHING and never getting it back...

Do an repair like K3rupt said. Probably the best solution.

ok so do i just pop in the xp disk once the computer turns on??

because i cant get it to go into safe mode or anything without locking up

First you need to go into your BIOS during system post. To do this Restart the computer, The first, or second on some machines, thing you should see on the screen will be the system post. At this point you need to push a certain key, it may be listed on the screen "Push ___ to enter system BIOS". Delete, F8 and F2 are the most common keys, if they do not work try some of the others posted. Now that your in the bios you need to change boot order priority from HDD to optical, or Cd\dvd-rom. You may see a boot tab or "advanced BIOS features", from there you can change Boot priority to a cd-rom.

(^this step isn't need if your boot priority is already set for Cd-rom before HDD^)

Phew. Next put the Cd in the drive and reboot. You should get to a screen that says something like push any key to boot from cd. Do so. (the alternative is simply it will boot automatically) When you get to the welcome to setup page there will be some options, Push enter. The disc will now do a search, when it's done you need to select the OS you want to repair and finally push R to do so. This will start the Repair installation, hopefully solving your problem. :)

okay i got there but insted of opperating systems it say partitions and it has two of them... so do i repair both of them or do i delete them?
