Computer start-up problems

Hey guys, another problem. When my computer has been on for an extended period of time and i shut it off, if i was to turn it back on in say 20 seconds, it won't start. I get error beeps. It goes 1 long, 1 short then repeated long beeps. I have checked the bios beep codes and it is not mentioned. If i leave the cmo for bout half hour it will turn on fine, which leads me to believe tht this has something to do with heat/temps. I dunno whats going on. Any advice?

You might want to log the temp in the BIOS or the OS ! and post them back here or do a search to find out that the average temps should be for each component e.g. CPU, GPU, mobo chipset.

hey guys, at idle my vid card is bout 60C CPU 30C. Under load vid card can get up to 90C and cpu up to 38C

I have already contacted ATi on the vid card heat and they said tht it is common for a 1900xtx to get tht hot.

I also find the bios beeps weird, they are not mentiond on the list in the mobo manual.

well, either way it don't explain why the comp won't start when hot. If i left it at idle for a day then turnt it off and on it would do the same.

Memory overheating due to heat soak? (=once the air stops moving, the residual heat isn't carried away except by convection)
You got enough air moving through that box? Doesn't sound it to me.
Everything I've ever read about restarting a PC has said to wait at least 1 minute to do so... but no explanation was ever given as to why. I'd try it just to see what happens.

Hey Tom, i'll turn it off tonight and move some wires around (its pretty crowded) give it a dust en such then let u know what happens.

I agree with Tom. It's heatsoak after you shut it off and all the fans quit working.

Same as your car. Turn it off and wait 5 minutes. Start it up again and look at the temp gauge. It will be hotter because all the water is just sitting in one spot and no cooling through the radiator.
