Computer Suffered Crash

My computer recently suffered in a car accident with me (it was in the front passenger seat). The case is warped and dented a bit on the outside, the force of the crash made the heat pipes on the CPU heatsink bend (Freezer 64 Pro), the heatsink for the voltage regulator was knocked off, and drive covers for empty drive bays were scattered around the case. The LCD monitor was also in the car but it survived.

The next day I salvaged the computer and monitor from the wrecked car and brought it home to test. The LCD works, the video card works, the ram works, the DVD drive atleast opens. Everything else I am not sure about.

When I first tried to turn the computer on everything would just be running, like all the fans and lights, but I didn't get anything to display. That's when I tested my video card and ram in another computer and found out they work fine. I then tried a different motherboard (which has given me problems before). It worked and I booted into Windows, I was happy, but then the computer shut off, like the power was cut from it. I then tried to turn it on again but it either wouldn't do anything, or the fans and lights would be on for 1 second and then the computer would shut off again.

I tried another PSU, and I still had the computer on for 1 second before it shut down. Then I tried yet another PSU. This time it either wouldn't start, would spin up for 1 second then shut off, or keep running but not display anything (and I had to cut its power to shut it off).

I have been through a great ordeal and would just like to get my computer working again. So if anybody has any thoughts on what the problem could be, then please share it.

Thanks,

hmm.. sorry, but i just have to say... when I read the title, i thought it was just a BSOD or so, and i though, "is that something special?" lol :o

but, its possible that both motherboards are dead tbh.

I'd say replace the CPU and possibly the mobo. If the crash was violent enough to screw up the heatsink, it's possible it screwed up the CPUs internals and the mobo PCB probably has problems too.

I dont think he will mind too much, but heres a pic of the computer:

Holy crap.

Is it just me or is that sound card PCB (it's an audigy isn't it?) a little warped?
I'd defiently replace the CPU and see if the mobo still works, if it doesn't then replace the mobo as well. You already have a strong indication that the CPU is dead because when you tested it on another board it also didn't work.

Well so far everybody has said something about the motherboard being the problem and I believe that is correct. Last night I went to a friends house, who has a socket 939 motherboard, to test out all of my parts. I found out that my CPU, GPU, HDD, RAM, optical drives, sound card, and wireless card all work fine. I booted into Windows and it began reinstalling drivers by itself (probably cause of the new motherboard).

So once I was confident that all of that was working, I put it all back into the other motherboard (the one in the accident), and it would start up for a second and shut off, even with my friend's PSU. So from my observations I think I have two motherboards that don't work properly.

I consider myself lucky that nothing else was damaged beyond repair. I will be needing a new case and motherboard, which is still a bummer because the case was brand new (Lian Li) and so was the motherboard (ASUS A8N32 SLI Deluxe). I am going to make a WTB thread for a case and motherboard.

Thanks for all of your input. If you have anything else you want to say or ask, go ahead. Once I am done with my insurance company I will probably post pictures of my totaled car.

I thought you said you did try your other motherboard?

So I guess I, as well as others were right :P

I tried 3 different motherboards, one being in the accident, the other that I had laying around (and it's given me problems in the past), and the other one being my friend's (Mike's). The only one that worked properly was Mike's, the other two that I own are not working.

It has been a while since this thread was last used, and now I bring good news.

The ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard that I pronounced dead (from being in a car crash), has awaken again! I pulled it out of storage and hooked it all up and I am back in business!

I left this thread saying the LCD survived, however it did not. It died a slow and painful death when it flicked its last flicker.
