I want to connect my laptop so that it displays on the tv. I hooked it up with a s-video but i switch the monitor so the tv becomes the primary display.

oops the problem is it doesn't work, why?

try function F4 or "fn +f4"

It is a function key plus an F key to switch the displays.

fn + f4 is scroll lock , I tried the one that says CRT/LCD but that doesn't work either

What video card do you have? If you have ATI, then you go into the Catalyst Control center, and you enable the S-Video or TV button. But you may have to change the resolution to the max your TV supports for it to work. If you have integrated, or nvidia, im not sure how to enable it since i dont have experience with those.
