Computer turns of at start up

Hi all my computer has been playing up when i turn it on it turns it self off but not every time, it is taking 4 to 6 attemps to turn it on at the min once it loads up it is fine and works with problems, a few times a week it checks the disk c for consistency and about once a week i have to put the windows operating system disk in and use the repair windows options as it says windows registy corrupt or missing, any help with resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

First when it boots up clean your with CCleaner - if it will find and fix errors try to boot it up again. Eventually reset your BIOS by taking out the battery from the motherboard.

Hi John

When you say your computer turns itself off when does this happen, when the POST starts or when its starting to load windows etc?

When it does eventually work and you get into windows do you find you get many problems such as errors or it just restarting itself randomly as such?

If you could give us more information such as your computer specs and info on if it restarts itself at the exact same point during the POST or loading windows this would give us a better idea of what the problem could be. It could be just a corrupt OS and it needs a fresh install has it ever worked?
 
the computer is an emachines running windows vista home premium with an AMD athlon (tm) dule core processor 4000+ 2.1ghz 32 bit operating system it is just over 2 years old. the problem is mainly when starting up but it is not turning off at the same point every time it has also started doing it when the computer has been on a while. it does not restart it's self just turns off.
I have ran a registry scan software and it found over 400 errors which it repaired but it is still turning it self off.

the errors when using the computer seem to be fixed now i stopped useing internet explorer.

Do you have any virus/malware software? I dont know that I have seen registry keys just dissapear that frequently. Either you have a virus/malware making changes to the registry, or you are deleting them. However the shutting off on its own sounds unrelated and may be a hardware problem such as Ram, or PSU.

And post logs from both in the security section. There you will be given further instructions on how to fix the windows issues you are having. As far as the possible harware problem, some one else will have to chime in. You can try running a program called memtest: http://www.memtest86.com/download.html

to test your RAM and see if it is the culprit. Good luck.

There are a few things in there that I was told to fix when I posted my HJT log but I am no pro at this. So rather than screw up your pc by giving you the wrong instructions you should just wait for some one more qualified, like Johnb35. He is a mod in computer security i believe so it may take a bit for him to come back to this thread again but i'm sure hell stop by.
 
Having the same problem

I am having the same problem but i tried to fix it this past week by getting a new PSU,and a new CPU fan. But the problem is yet to go away.

My Specs
Windows 7 32bit
mother board: gigabyte ga-ep45-ed3r/ud3
Ram: 4gb Gskill ddr2 1066
CPU: intel core 2 duo
CPU fan: xigmatek dark knight
PSU: antec cp-850 850W
Case: antec 1200

i have ran my virus protection (Eset nod32) and it found nothing, also i ran malawarebytes and that found somethings but got rid of those and the problem still occurs. thx
 
If I were you I would backup all your important files and then reinstall windows. Then when you get everything up and running again make sure you do scans about once a month or so with antivirus/spyware/adware etc. programs including the defragmenting the drive and the disk cleanup utility.

i unchecked the automatic restart box under the advanced settings, and then waited for the computer to restart on its own and when it did this is the bsod error i got. i would like to know what it means and what i can do to fix this. thx

PC itself turn it off when start up. It means that there is RAM problem. Replace the RAM and see the problem occurs or not. The second think is that your windows may be corrupted.
 
I have ran various malware programs and am still having the same problem I reloaded windows and that did not sort the problem either.
 
I hope this helps, but is it a laptop? It might be a bad battery. Or maybe not. I don't know. I had a similar problem with my laptop, and it turned out to be the battery..
