computer turns off?

so, whenever i turn on my computer, it starts to boot, then turns off, and if i try to boot it in safe mode it says, "it is now safe to turn off your computer."
it's fairly old (windows 98se) i don't know what caused it, except that i recently moved it to a different case, but it did work once in the new case.
Can anyone help?

The "goobers" of 98! Hopefully you have a full installation disk onhand. If you have been running 98SE there for a few years your copy of Windows 98SE has developed a few problems which will force a reinstall there. The improvements seen in ME, 2000, XP, and sure to be in Vista are the system restore features that lacked in the older versions of Windows. Just swapping cases wouldn't be the cause there. Something on the drive was goofed!
