Computer virus

Hi folks

Okay, I'm asking this on behalf of a friend since tomorrow I'm going round his to try and help him with a problem he has. Basically the other day he received a link over MSN, and foolishly he clicked it and opened the PIF file. So now he has a virus.

I was wondering if anyone here knows about the virus and could help in some way. Below are the details which his anti-virus listed:

The File Name // The Virus Name
303.exe // Adware.ToolBar888.B
304.exe // Adware.PurityScan.U
loadadv455.exe // DeepScan:Generic.Malware.dld!!g.7BBDEC86

I've tried searching on Google although can't find much helpful information. Obviously if I formatted his hard drive and then reinstalled Windows for him, it would work, although he'd rather avoid this.

So if anyone knows anything, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks. :)

Thanks for the reply. I tried that but it didn't work. He has BitDefender Pro Plus 9; a paid version. Apparently this virus is pretty common but I can't find it anywhere on the Internet; at least how to remove it, that is.

How to scan with the other hardisk. You just pull it out (I don't know the better langguage) and install to the other computer (computer with free virus of course and last updated antivirus). Try to scan it. Remember, the hardisk full with virus must alter to secondary. I think this will be a good idea, he2

At the final dialogue box click "Finish" and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the "Do a system scan and save a logfile" button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip to your Desktop.
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Post this log also.
