Computer won't boot after installing WC

Hey all,

This one's been bugging me, I think I may have damaged the PSU as I had a little leakage since installing the system. All connections are now sound, and I left everything for about 9 hours to make sure it was all dry before I even attempted to turn the system on. When I do, it switches itself off after literally no more than a second and not allow you to switch it back on unless you disconnect from the mains, and when it does decide to boot it gets to the BIOS displaying a message saying the CPU speed setting was to high or something similar and when I try to set it back the thing switches off again :(

I've tried resetting the CMOS from a friends recommendation but still no joy, so the only thing I can assume is that the water damage was worse than I thought for the PSU. Anyone encountered a similar prob, not necessary related to a WC system ? Full specs in sig ...
 
I suspected as much, funny thing was, the only things that had power at the time of leakage were the PSU and the pump, so even if other things had gotten wet, as long as they were dry by the time power was put to them, they should be safe ? (My electrical knowledge isn't great) I haven't yet been able to try with another PSU as I don't have a spare, and I can't really afford to go and get another one unless I *know* that's the problem.
 
Your PSU might have been the only thing with power, but the water could have dripped in other places and the water could have caused sparks or surges from the PSU and the surges would have affected the other computer parts.
 
Well, I tested another PSU and same result so I guess you'd be right. Only thing the water could possibly have touched was the mobo itself so it's just as well I've been saving for an upgrade, hehe.
 
Oh oh...

That seems no good. Yeah it seems like a shorted circuitry on the motherboard....sorry mate.

Set PSU.dead();

I haven't yet been able to try with another PSU as I don't have a spare, and I can't really afford to go and get another one unless I *know* that's the problem.
Well either tis the PSU or the mobo. I doubt its the mobo. You can always bring the system into a shop, plug in a PSU and if that solves the problem you can buy it right then and there :)

Test the main parts of the system 2 check that they are ok. esp motherboard. If u have knackered that then u'd b in deep doody.
 
Here's what you can try doing, get a hair dryer and paper towel, uninstall all the hardware that are connected to your MOBO and get a bright desk lamp were it will be sufficient enough for you to see specks of dust on your MOBO. Blow dry your MOBO but not to close(6"-8" away) check the PCI and AGP slot, front and back of MOBO if possible,
check all connector for any water that may be in there. If your sure enough that your MOBO is dry install only minimal hardware and also check your PSU if its really dead. How to check it?
1. remove your PSU from your case
2. get a 2" wire
3. attach the wire to the green wire from your 20 pin ATX power connector(theres only 1 green in there)
4. from the green wire attach it to any black wire
5. attach a fan to the 4 pin molex and power the PSU, if the fan runs then your PSU is ok, be sure to check all the 4 pin molex for power.
