My computer at work started locking up yesterday and I had to re-boot by shutting it down with the on/ off button. It re-boots to the point of giving choices to start manually, or safe mode , last good configuration and so on.. then I get the pretty Microsoft picture and the note saying Windows is starting and then the screen goes black. Nothing !!! I shut it off and on but each time the same thing happens.I have also tried safe mode and last good configuration. Screen keeps going black as if someone unplugged it. Any thoughts ??
Thanks in advance

Your hard drive may have errors on it. What brand of drive is it? You would have to download the drive makers disk diagnostic utility and run the extended test.

Where would I look to find out what kind of drive I have, This was a "put together PC"

Just open it up and pull out the hard drive. Or go into the BIOS and look for the model number listed in hard drive priorities. The manufacturer is the first section of the model number.

WDC = Western Digital
ST = Seagate
HJ = Samsung
HT = Hitatchi
FJ = Fujitsu
