hey all,

i just bought an Intel Q6600 and installed it onto my eVGA 680i nForce mobo. i formatted my hdd yesterday and so i reinstalled xp. it runs the first setup for windows where it asks you whether you would like to delete the partition etc..
after this setup is complete, the system reboots prior to setting-up windows xp itself like normal.

but the problem is that when it's restarted, it asks to boot from cd "press any key to boot from cd" (i press nothing to let the next setup install). normally when i had my old cpu installed, it would continue on to the next setup, but ever since i installed my new cpu. it just stays on a blank screen.

i tried my other computer's hdd in there to see if it would work (has vista already installed on there), but just before the vista loading bar appears. the screen stays blank forever.

does anyone know what could be the problem?? im very anxious to try out my new quad core beast

any help would be highly appreciated!....

thanks,

I ran into this problem once, what worked for me was going into the bio's and changing the first boot device to the C: drive and setting the dvd/cd player to 2nd boot.

Hope it works for you.

nah ive tried booting from HDD and Optical Drives already, but it doesnt seem to be working for me...

im about to rip to computer apart and just rebuild to make sure its all connected etc.

ill get back to you about how i get on....

cheers,
Tim

Yeah, that's a good idea plug in ALL the essential peripherals and leave the non-essential ones out like sound cards and RAID cards etc, and then install windows.

You cannot plug and play hard drives. You would get the same result with XP, 2k, ect
