The title is the problem, it won't boot one the card is plugged in, but if the card isn't in the box then that computer does fine. The build is a HP microtower (the motherboard is from it, i've upgraded the CPU/RAM/HDD over time and now i wanna put this card in it and it won't work. Can anyone (please) give some suggestions on how to fix it/tell me if it will even work? I can answer any further questions if i left something out, i'm not the most computer knowledgeable person but i do know a little bit lol

What is the model of HP machine you have? Most likely the motherboard doesn't support the video card. I rememeber having a dell dimension 4500 and it wouldn't accept any video card that was 128mb or higher, it just wouldn't boot up. Your HP may be the same way. Or the video card may just be bad. Have you tried it in another machine? Does the card require a 6 pin power connection from the power supply?

If you havent upgraded the power supply, which you might have, because I dont believe it would have two 6 pin PCIe power connectors. It has a OEM 300W BTX. Nvidias minimum system power requirement is a 400W. If you still have the OEM in it, probably the reason it isnt booting. If you updated the power supply, try the card in another computer that has the minimum system power requirement if you can.

Exactly. But its possible if hes using the molex to pcie power bridge he could get it working. But, as I also said, a new PSU is needed if it is indeed the original psu. :good:

It should support that card http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...kId=101&prodSeriesId=3252512&prodTypeId=12454

Couple of things:

1. Did you plug in the PCIe power cable into the graphics card?
2. Do you still have the original PSU? If so you'll need a new one.
3. Have you disabled on-board GPU in the BIOS?
4. Make sure you have the latest BIOS as one was released end of 2011 and may resolve the issue.

3. how to do that? and i've upgraded the PSU, it's a cooler master eXtreme power plus 600W

Usually if you have a GPU installed the onboard video automatically gets disabled, so don't worry about that. If it turns out it's not disabled, you need to go into your BIOS and find the option to disable it.

That PSU will run a 9600 GT without any issues.

how would i do that? and to a post before, how do i check if it's updated or not? i think it is, but i'm not sure lol

Ok, when the computer starts, hit the DEL key (sometimes F2) - but it should say. Once inside the BIOS you should see some options. What you are looking for is integrated GPU. Usually the options will have PCI, integrated and PCIe. You want PCIe.

In terms of the BIOS update, I have linked it in my previous post.
