Computer won't restart

I just upgraded my computer and it works fine. The only problem I have is that I can't restart it. If i choose restart from windows or if I just press the restart button, the screen goes blank as it's supposed to do, but it won't start up again. Instead, my cd & dvd-drive start spinning, like my computer is trying to boot from them or something. The problem won't happen if I just shut down the computer and then start it up again, but that's getting a bit frustrating. The restart cable should be properly connected to my mobo.. Any ideas?

I have a Seasonic 430w power in an Antec Sonata II case,
Asrock 939 Dual SATA2 mobo with an athlon 3800+ processor,
1 gb of ram running at 333mhz (rather old)
Club3d Geforce 6600GT
1xMaxtor Diamondmax 120 gb, 1xMaxtor Diamondmax 200gb (both ata)
1xLite-on cdrw, 1 LG dvdrw

It sounds like the read heads on the hard drive may be goofing with you there. That would be the worst. A bad cable is another thing to look at. The most likely would be the battery on the board causing the lack of proper drive detection. That or a need for a bios update could work. The last item would be a failing chip on the board. That brand doesn't get any rave reviews on it.

Ok, thanks! It seems like my hard drives are messing with me. I removed my old 120 gb disk, and then everything worked fine. A bit strange though since that drive is set to slave..

Was that slaved to the host drive on the same cable there or to the cd/dvd drive? What I found at times when having a second ide hard drive in the case was to set the jumper to cable select if there were problems with it set to the slave position and couldn't be read. Maxtor drives are known to be a little flaky at times with detection to add there.

At least you found the problem fast there if the drive was failing. If you decide to try the cable select position to see if that was all it was you may have to set the 200gb host to cable select as well if that still sees problems. Often both drives are set to CS instead of setting just the second drive.

It worked! I set both hard drives to cable select, and after that it worked just fine:D Thanks for your help PC eye. And sorry for posting in the wrong forum..
