i had a computer that someone gave me. i was surprised. had to wd 160g and 40 gig hd. .5 gig of ram. msi motherboard (low end what ever). and intel 2 gig processor. problem is the dam thing takes 5 min to shut down. now the only thing i can think of is clean the reg using ccleaner and defrag with perfectdisk. ran msconfig / startup and shut off or had all ready uninstalled everything i didn't want. booted several times. scanned for virus. i spent to much time all ready. any suggestions on what the bluemoon might be holding it up for shutdown?

thanks

What is loading up at bootup? Could be having problems shutting software down. Problems unloading drivers, could be anything. Try doing a repair install.

just for the record which i can't do right now. i come across some information that might be handy for troubleshooting a long time shut down.

run msconfig
diagnostic startup
reboot then try shut down again.

it was suggested that if it shuts down faster
its related program or service. its not clear to
be about the service part. i will have to follow
up some more on this. just another adventure.
many times i spent to much time trying to fix it
and lend up wiping anyway and should have done
the 1st time. i am curious though.
thanks
