Computer won't shut down

Hey guys. This is my first post and I really need some advice. Recently my computer became unresponsive up in sleep mode and won't wake up. Also, it won't shutdown or restart. It just stays in the shutdown screen for hours until I hold the power button to turn it off. I did a malware scan with malwarebytes and am running microsoft security essentials and everything came back clean. I'm not sure if its related, but I only noticed the problem when I added a Steel Series Merc Stealth keyboard and Steel Series Sensei Mouse which both seem to be working fine with all the drivers installed. I'm using Windows 7 home premium 64-bit and my computer is a Gateway DX4860-EF11P. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Test your RAM with Memtest86 and your hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic tool. What make and model is your hard drive?

Tried reinstalling Windows? Could be a software problem but I think it's most likely a bad hard drive or bad RAM stick.
