Hi,

I posted a simular topic before about my computer not starting up on occasions, well its not starting up at all now.
I re-booted the computer after my internet stopped working (shut it down, not restart it) then when I come to start it back up, nothing I would'nt mind if it shut down on its own but it was up and running fine untl I shut it down and come to start it back up.

Any ideas on what it could be?

my computer is

gigabyte ga-k8nf-9 mobo
samsung HDD
ATI graphics card
antec 380 watt psu (is there a way to test this to see if theres power going to the mobo)

Thanks.

if you have a light on the mobo, most do, check its on, and if u can hear the Fan spinning. Does the computer get into BIOz

Right,

I tested the PSU by jumping it and it works so could it be the motherboard, when i press the power button nothing happens at all its dead I have a 380 watt power supply is it too small?, the computer been running fine for a year since I built it.

380 should be enough but if the computer aint starting up, then it's either the mobo or the power supply. shove a bigger supply, see if that works.

I forgot to mention I had'nt used the computer for a while (a couple of weeks) becuase I was using my laptop, could the CMOS battery be flat? or would'nt this stopp the PC from starting up.

well, check if the mobos power source light is on. if it is, then thats not the issue here. sorta sounds like your mobo has been slowly frying or something and now it finally cooked. borrow a friends power supply and mobo and try em out.

lol. hmmmm, im putting my money on a fried mobo. Get a friend to give you a motherboard and just see if the on/off botton starts to work...

OK, this is strange I walked into my room to find my computer turned on  and with the message CMOS has been reset or something like that, pressed f1 to continue and it ran normaly, turned it off, tryed to turn it back on and nothhing, switched the plug off then on pressed the power button and it started:confused:.

ok, now it sounds like a power supply issue. I woulda lost alot of money on this bet. lol..

i had the somthing liek that once. my comp would randomly turn off and it would have to sit there for like 20 minutes and only after unpluggin and pluggin back in would it start up again. it came down to my power supply wasnt enough.

There may be a dodgy connector somewhere in there, these can cause random power outages. A piece of kit I built in systems & control class at school had a dry joint on the power cable and it would work sporadically. Either that or a connector has become so badly worn it now only just manages to contact the other connection occasionally, check them as well...

OK, sorry to bring this back up but, when I come to turn my computer on it still sometimes does'nt start so I turn it off at the mains turn it back on then press the power and if I wait a few minutes it turns on  so instead of it turning on instantly when I push a button, it takes minutes to start, when you push the button it has to think about it then turns on.

Does this give an idea on the problem?

Also I've checked my power supply and on the 1st and 2nd +12v rails its min. 0.4A and max 16A on both.
