Computer wont start

Hmm, i got this really weird problem on my laptop, when i turn it on it tells me that i shutdown the computer wrong last time. It gives me 5 options:
Safe mode
Safe mode with Command
Safe mode with Networking
Last good configuration
Start normally

so whichever one i choose it goes on to the sreen where it says windows XP
and then there is the bar at the bottom, then after a while the computer flashes a blue screen and then does not turn off but does reset to the screen of HP and then to that screen with 5 options

So these are the things that i have tried,
1 Reinstall windows, but before i can start the process of restarting the computer allready has reset.
2 Did a harddisk test...never gets past 10%
3 now lastly i used my boot CD that i have for UBUNTU, linux, well this worked (still cant connect to the internet) but i was able to back up all my files onto me external harddrive. the only thing that is left are programs and games which i can reinstall without problem.

Now guys....how can i fix this.
 
Get hold of a copy of SpinRite software that will repair, what sounds like a corrupt and/or bad sectors hard drive.

Worked for me on very hard drive I've tried it on.

ok well, thought that this would be some usefull information to, before this started happening my computer would randomly just turn off sometimes while i was playing games sometimes just while i was watching a movie or typing something on Word.
