Computer won't switch on

I tried the battery thing once more, still no change and I left it for more than 15 minutes.

The monitor is plugged in to the computer (with two different cables, the blue one you mentioned and another one) and the computer is plugged into the surge protector. The monitor does not have it's own power cord to the surge protector. There is no 'reset' on either the surge protector or the wall outlet that the surge protector is plugged into.

ok, well, were reaching here. and its not looking good for your mobo, but open the computer and tell me if the usb u plugged into is directly built into the motherboard, or if it is part of a card that plugs into the motherboard through a slot. and also, where on the computer is the usb plugs? front? back?

If it is the motherboard....
How much is a new one going to cost?
Can I get my memory back?

Some motherboards has protection (fuse or circuit breaker) for incidents like this from USB devices, other's do not have it and simply rely on the transistors for protection. If your motherboard just rely on the transistor, then you will need a technician to do the job.

The location of this "fuse' or "circuit breaker" is usually (not always) near the power supply connections.

Do this with the computer unplugged from the outlet.

Look closely at the motherboard (with a flashlight) - do you see a fuse (round cylindrical glass object), or a "burnt" white rectangular component? If you can, then this has to be replaced.

Can you find a reset button (circuit breaker) on one of the motherboard components (it's something like a very small push button which is colored red or white? If you can, then push this lightly until the button seats, then try booting the computer again.

Chances are your files will be unaffected by this incident and you can recover them back once you get the computer fixed.
