Computer won't turn on

Hi all.

An hour or so ago I was on my computer just playing a game like I usually do, and there's this quite unpleasant smell like burning plastic coming from the PC.

I went to have a look, and accidently nudged the PC. It turned off - if this was a coincidence or not I don't know. I thought I might've just hit the power button by accident or something so didn't pay much attention to it.

Opened up the case to have a look and it was pretty dusty in there. Took out the CPU + cooler and removed all the dust from that.

Plugged everything back in, hit the power button and - nothing. I've checked all the cables and reconnected them to be sure. The motherboard's LED is on so it's getting power from the PSU. The power button just doesn't seem to work. Could I have messed up the CPU?

The burning smell seemed to be coming from the PSU, and before it turned off the PSU sounded like it was slowing down. Is that the likelier culprit?

Your help is appreciated. Any other questions I'll answer.

It's very possible that the PSU is dead, yes. Do you have another unit to swap out and test with?

Yup, confirmed. It was the PSU.

Borrowed the one out of my sisters computer and everything is working as it should.

Kinda weird. My mate asked me the other day if I wanted his spare PSU. Good timing huh.
