Computer Working Slow

I have the following computer

Core i7 920 2.67 GHz
Asus P6T Deluxe
Corsair Dominator 6GB (2GBx3) 1600MHZ(1 I have given for RMA only 4Gb now)
XFX GTX 275 Nvidia
Thermaltake Toughpower 650W PSU
Coolermaster HAF 932
Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit (since currently my RAM is 4Gig only)

My PC has been working Pretty slow these days I have a 750GB internal hardrive divided into 3 partitions
C drive - 158 GB free of 199GB
D drive - 99.2GB free of 199GB
E drive - 218 Gb Free of 298GB
and i have a 1TB hardrive connected to my which is used for storing movies and tv shows and 408Gb of it is free

my CPU usage is generally as shown on my G15 keyboard is 0-1%
and Ram usage is 32%-54% on only the desktop without any application running

I have noticed a slight change in my performance it is quite slow like when i open my computer it appears after some time and even firefox but once it is open the browsing is pretty fast on the hard drive.
My computer sometimes works normally sometimes it is slow as mentioned above.

Can the reason be multiple power cuts in my city from the past few days because of which the computer was turned of the wrong way.
what else should i post so that my problem would be clear to you guys

That's crazy-high!

Have you scanned for malware? Run Malwarebyte's Antimalware in safe mode, remove anything it finds.

You may also want to download and install CCleaner to analyze and fix issues w/ your registry.

You can disable unneeded processes from starting up by doing the following:
Go to Start-->Run-->type in 'msconfig' and hit <enter>

In the Startup tab, uncheck everything that you do not need running in the background at startup and click "Apply." Then, in the Services tab, check Hide All Microsoft Services, uncheck everything that you do not need running in the background at startup and click "Apply." Restart the computer.

Be forewarned that you may need certain programs to run at startup, especially display drivers, etc. If you do not feel comfortable removing startup entries on your own, please do the following:

Download the HijackThis executable from here: http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/ (executable is on the right).
Run HijackThis! and press the button labeled "Open the Misc Tools Section". Then check both the check boxes next to the "Generate StartupList Log" button and click the button. Click the button to generate the list, save it and upload it as an attachment to your next post, and I or some other forum member will advise you on what to disable.

If Malwarebyte's does find some nasties, after you've removed them, run the HijackThis! executable in safe mode and post your log here and we'll see if there's anything else that needs to be looked at.

You could also defragment your hard drive(s) and see if that helps your performance.

After you've done all of the above, please post back w/ your updated RAM-usage report. I'll bet it's a lot lower!

Amzing reply dude thanks will try it i have already disabled the startup
and done a virus scan using kaspersky will try the malware scan and cc cleaner and post the hijack this
 
ok so now i performed all the above scans in safe mode i cleaned everything which cccleaner prompted me to do and also cleaned everything antimalware prompted me to do
i also took a log of hijack this in safe mode

Now the RAM usage is pretty good
its like 32% with fireforx utorrent kaspersky windows updateand logitech gamepanel running

you might want to try posting the logs in the security subform, JohnB35 will analyse them for you. :)

I would also recommend using:

CCleaner
Auslogics Disk Defrag
Auslogics Registry Cleaner

all are free and greatly help keeping your computer in top shape... I'd also be careful with utorrent... it's not allowed for discussion here so you don't want any unnecessary infrignements ;)
 
I don't see any malware after looking through HJT log, but when was the last time you defragged? I would do a defrag analysis and see what you get. If it comes back with anything over 5% fragmented, then I would run a defrag.
 
thanks guys now i my memory usage is 19% with bittorrent on i just uninstalled kaspersky and everything is working fine.


But got a new problem now my computer wont boot up and the error it prompts is "USB Device Over Current Status System will shut down in 15seconds"

I disconnected all the usb devices and connected a PS/2 Keyboard still same message please help me:o:confused:

sorry I missed your last few posts! Must have overlooked them!

there is an interesting thread here:http://www.computerforum.com/172797-computer-working-slow.html regarding the same problem. Please try the suggestions listed and post back.

Also - do you get this message during POST? Please open up your case, clean out all dust, etc., and be sure that all of the USB ports are free of any foreign material - could be that part of an old USB drive or something has come off inside one of the ports?

If you're able to get your box back up, go to msconfig like you did before, but this time choose "Disable All" on both the Startup tab and, with Hide All Microsoft Services checked, the Services tab.

Then reboot, post back w/ CPU usage and we'll go from there.
 
well my cpu isnt working i cleared up all the dust and nothing is stuck on my usb ports.
and thanks for the quick reply i will do try it once i fix my pc up
 
Are you able to enter BIOS? Also, can you disconnect the wires connected from the USB ports to the motherboard - you should be able to - at least the ones in the front - the ones in the back may or may not be onboard.

What do you think caused this error? Nothing you've done to the OS would cause this problem. Have you recently installed/removed hardware? Moved the computer? Opened it up for any other reason?
