Computers keeps shutting down

In the past 2 weeks my computer shuts down suddenly within 20 minutes of me booting it. It doesn't shut down properly. It just shuts down like someone pulled the plug...but the light in my keyboard is still on.

This happens every new day. I just keep booting it up.
Now if my computer does NOT shut down within the first 20 minutes after booting the computer, then it does NOT shut down and I can use the computer for hours without problems.

anyone know my problem?

I have a 450 watt power supply.
CPU:3700+ athlon
memory:1 gig
Video: 6800 GS nvidia 254MB

My computer is about 1 year 3 months old.

the PSU may not be sufficient, RAM, shortingin mobo+case , bad PSU.

i once had a PSU that would shut down when i tapped it...

i'm not sure about my cpu not being sufficient. when i was planning on getting this computer, the computer people in "whirlpool forums" told me that 450 W was more than enough for the system i was getting.

its an antec one aswell.

Whats do u mean about mobo+case shorting? you mean the mobo touching the case?

also.. i think its wieard that it only shuts down within 20 minutes of me booting the comp. Today, the computer shut down twice, i booted it up again and now, i've been using the computer for around 1 hr with no problem.

It ALWAYS ONLy shuts down within 20 minutes after booting the computer. if it doesn;'t shut down within the 20 minutes, then everything works properly and i keep my computer on for hours without a problem.... wierd!

hardware conflict? well if you have all the pins filled then the PSU may not be as efficient enough... and when i say shorting byes i mean that the mobo is touching the case... loosen some mobo screws.

my computer also suffering that kind of problem at first but later my computer problem getting serious n serious...only started to open program, then shut down n shut down....dunno wat problem..

Take the motherboard out and set it on the floor , as with the cards, drives, and PSU. plug it all in, and use a screwdriver and touch the 2 pins to start it, if it runs great , then its your cases problem. and if it is overheating, go to bios immidiately when its booting and check tempertatures. 30-50C is all right. 60+ C is alittle hot. if yyour computer is overheating, and you have a automatic shutdown at a certain temperature, then that may be it

Just because your PSU is sufficient for the system doesn't rule it out. It could simply be a faulty PSU. Checking your temperatures is a good idea, if that doesn't solve the problem it would be worth trying another PSU.
