When I start Microsoft Word (or Adobe Acrobat, etc.) it appears I must connect to their website in order for the software to run. Is this true and why must this be done? In the "old" days software was installed on the hard drive.

Not sure about acrobat but you must have the newest version of Word that requires an Internet connection.

Im curious now. why does Word require a internet connection?
