Sorry if this isnt where it should be or if it should be here at all,

but i have an oldie gateway essential, celeron, 666mhz(i think), 256mb ram, windows 98 yeah yeah yeah,

but when i turn it on there is no display.
It does not beep when you turn it on as it used to.
I opened it up,
and put in a new cd rom drive,
but now no display.
Ive tried taking out all the parts and all that stuff,
i tried cleaning the motherboard,
i tried using different monitors.
i dont know what kind of mobos they are but they have the display port built on to the mobo ((sorry im a newbie to mobos so that may sound stupid)) so i cant just slap a new video card in it...
I really dont know what to do......

i also have this same problem with an old compaq, p2, 64mb ram, yeah,
sff, it was a workstation at an auto plant, and yeah i messed that one up too.

my dads hp pavilion a320n has been having this same problem, and he revolted the capacators (i have no idea what this is), but he took some needle nosed pliers and it looked like he touched the end of the plug, and it turned on,
im not sure if that helps anyone with helping me lol.

ive asked multiple forums this exact same thing,
but all the threads have eventually went dead.....

So this just randomly began happening? Could be many things. More than likely, it's a bad power supply or bad motherboard. I'm sure this isn't always the case, but when my motherboard died in my old file server, the drives wouldn't eject anymore. When I disconnected IDE(just left power) they worked.

It could also be RAM, I suppose. YOu never mentioned if you changed that out or not... As I said...lots of stuff.

Ok,

Yes the fans and such do spin and light up and make noises and such.

And,

no it did not randomly start happening,

first it wouldnt display anything,

but i would unplug it and plug it back in and turn it on and off and on and off and on and off and eventually it worked but now nothing.

I think at one point i did replace the ram,
but ultimately the same ram that was in the computer ended up in the same computer.

This probably doesnt mean anything but i just found out that the model # is 500c
