Computers vs. Smart Phones

I am not tech savvy so I always wondered why it takes so long to get on the internet using a laptop or PC vs. a smartphone which instantly gives access to the internet. Does it have something to do with PCs and laptops using hard drives? How do smartphones get on the internet instantly? I also wondered why laptops and PCs refuse to download Apps; only smartphones & tablets will download these.

What kind of PC do you have? My PC loads Chrome in an almost instantaneous fashion.

Depends what you mean by 'refuse' and by 'apps'. The term 'apps' is just short for 'applications'. Windows 10 brought more of an 'app store' so you don't have to manually manage each software package on your PC. Otherwise, things like Android or iOS apps are designed for a completely different architecture and platform than your typical Windows PC.

My PC boots from off - to - loaded and online at this site in 27 seconds, (technically slow compared to others machines though)

EDIT: I lied, just timed it and it is actually 34.2 seconds

It has to do with hard drives. Most computers use hard drives, but the newer and/or more expensive computers now use solid state drives which are much faster. Smart phones use flash drives, so that is why they are faster. If you get a solid state drive for a computer it will be just as fast as a smart phone. Also windows 10 has an app store that is exactly the same as the google play store or the apple app store, well maybe a tad different. You can also do many many more things on a computer than you can on a smart phone, while smart phones do things a computer can't, like have GPS for example and track your location, or count your steps or read your heart rate. Computers also have much better graphics processing and can play better looking games.

Also note, that a phone app is much lighter than it's desktop version.
Chrome for android is about 70-80mb and the desktop version is closer to 500mb
btw. my chrome opens in about 1 second. Just get an SSD.
