Config for heavy multitasking and Qemu virtual machine

Currently running Qemu on my primary box (in sig), it results in a slight slowdown when multitasking heavily (kmeleon, qemu, itunes, msn messenger, yahoo msgr, AOL). I'm looking for a config that will allow me to run Qemu fast, and even include multiple Qemu sessions.

What I've figured out so far:
LGA775 Intel P4 HT 3.2GHz or so w/Vanderpool
Dual head video card
Chieftec Dragon aluminium case
400w PSU with 18+19 amp +12v
1GB+ DDR2

Specific component recommends? TIA

PS: I'm posting this from a Qemu virtual machine running Knoppix, so Qemu is at least fast enough for that (:
 
get a dual core processor, like the Intel 920, or the AMD X2 3800+. They will do what you want. DON'T get the 820.
 
@Viking: The PC will run WinXP Home as host OS, several flavours of linux as guest OS's in Qemu.
@Jet; Why not to get the 820? What's the difference between it and the 920?
 
Don't get the 820. Here's why:

My 820 runs at 48c idle and 65c+ load on speedfan. I have a Zalman 7700Al-Cu cooler. The thing's huge!

The 920 is supposed to be a LOT cooler, making it possible for overclocking without getting watercooling.

The only reason to get an 820 is if you get a GOOD deal. I got mine off of ebay for 325 with a $135 intel mobo, Xp Pro, the 820 proc, and adobe photoshop elements. and premere elements. So yea, that would be the only reason. (that was before the 920, when the 820 was $245

EDIT: what's your budget?
 
The 820 isn't bad for it's price, i'd certainly rather have that than a similarly priced single core CPU (at least for a work related machine). As Jet said, what's your budget? If you haven't already, take a look at Computer Specs 101 for some suggestions.
 
Jet, IYO the 820 doesn't seem right for you, but that doesn't mean it isn't for anyone else. Yeah, you like cool components and love overclocking right? Well maybe this guy doesn't oc.
 
I do OC actually, and I'm a quiet freak so the 820 is not for me. Budget: Dunno, depends on what I get for my birthday.

Exactly, my chip is faster than Jets, still it runs cooler. Thinking you absolutely need water to oc these chips is silly. Sure it helps, just like with any other chip.

Then the 920 will be better obviously but also more expensive, post back with a budget. :)
