Configuring SATA Help Please

Hello

After doing Advance RMA with ASUS 2-3 times I finally got a working board. Now the problem is that I don't know how to configure SATA to work. I have a Western Digital 160GB SATA Hard Drive and would like to get it working but the directions are getting me nowhere.

On my motherboard manual it say go to my bios, select IDE Configuration then switch Configure S-ATA as RAID option to [YES] and then press F10 to save. I got all that done.

Then it says that I need to get into the RAID Configuration utility by press CTRL I during the Power-On Self Test [POST] but nothing shows up when I pressed it. Can someone tell me is there another way to set it up or maybe tell me if I am doing something wrong.

The motherboard I am using is the ASUS P4P800 SE. Thank you all in advance for reading my post and giving the time and patience to reply. I hope to hear from someone.

um...for raid you need 2 identical harddrives to use it...run SATA without raid, reboot and in POST turn the RAID option off when configuring SATA, then make sure your HDD is plugged into the SATA master socket (Red) and not slave (black) and it should pick up automatically.

I used this board for my first build and had no problems.

If you are using just the one SATA hard drive and you are not doing a RAID setup, you need to see the instructions on page 4-14 of the manual. Under IDE configuration in the BIOS, it needs to be set to "Enhanced Mode", then under "Enhanced Mode Support On" set it to "Sata". Finally, if you are just using your SATA ports as IDE controllers for one HD, you need to set the "Configure SATA as RAID" option to "NO".

My hard drive was recognized instantly and I had no trouble installing my OS.

I would like to ask how do I set my jumper for the SATA hard drive? Do i set it as master or secondary? This is my first time having a SATA hard drive.

I don't think there is a master/slave designation for SATA hard drives. You just plug one drive into one of the SATA ports on the MOBO using the SATA cable and that's it. When I built mine, I fixed what I needed to in the BIOS, plugged the hard drive in, and it was instantly recognized.

Hello

I am back again. Thanks for the info about setting up my SATA. I finally had the time to open my computer and try to get it working. My bios detect the hard drive which consider a good thing now becuase before it didn't detect anything. I already have 2 IDE Hard drive on my computer and my SATA is just another backup. There is also a jumper cable in the back of my HD. Do i remove it and not leave it on? Now I see it in my bios and I see it in my device manager but when I click "My Computer" I don't see the 160GB HD there. Maybe it's because I didn't partition and format the drive yet but how do I do that? Do I have to use Partition Magic to format the drive? Please help me with some info again. I am new to SATA and never had one before. Sorry for all the annoying questions. Thank you in advance for reading my post and answering them. :)

When I proceed to install the driver it gives me a message which is:

Sorry, the setup wizard can't find the supported hardware on your system. You should check your hardware and try again. Please press OK to terminate the setup wizard

Everything is plugged in correctly unless there is something I need to change in bios. is there?

If anyone knows anything please help me out. I would love to get this hard drive up and running asap. Im running out of space. have like 2gb left. Thank u all for helping me out.

I am not trying to raid it. Someone on this post told me that using 1 SATA HD is not consider as raid unless I use 2 SATA drive.

I finally got it partitioned and formatted. It working fine but one problem. Instead of making a new post I would using this same one.

The problem I am having is that my HD is a 160GB Western Digital SATA. After I formatted the HD it gave me 127GB. I am missing about 30GB of space. I would like to know how would I recover that 30GB? Please give me some advice. Thank you in advance for all your help. I appreciated. :)

I am not trying to raid it.
While the real definition of RAID requires two drives to function, you can use a single drive as RAID0+1 (which violates the real definition of RAID0+1 but essentially means you're using the controller chanel as a basic IDE controller)

After I formatted the HD it gave me 127GB. I am missing about 30GB of space
See explaination in HDD 101

I have read the HDD-101 and it says you must have Windows XP SP1 but I already have sp2 so why would it be a problem for me unless I have to install SP1 also then I will go ahead and do that. It says to check my Atapi.sys file version and the version I have is higher then the version they require to have so what should I do?

I already got the SATA HD Working. I just want to say thank you to everyone that spend the time to help me in this. If the admin can delete this post that would be great and free up some space. :)
