Conflicting USB Mass Storage Devices

I have a problem with my USB mass storage devices. I am currently using win xp home edition on a acer laptop and whenever i connect my external USB 120gb hard drive and connect another mass storage device such as my 80gb apple ipod i cannot use both devices simultaneously. Each device works seperatly but i wish to use them at the same time. Can anyone help please?

i had a similiar problem but with my pc. i tried using a webcam and an audio interface at the same time but it couldnt bcuz the rate of transfer was to high for to all go in at the same time. And i'd imagine laptops to have a smaller rate of taking in info. Try both of them in a standard pc and if they both work, then its jsut the laptop.
