I've just decompiled CCleaner just to see if it's got any malware, spyware or adware. I can say the current version which I'm looking at is free from any of these, however the code in ccleaner could allow the creators to upload a log file of your usage, but this option is disabled at present.
Also remember that if you download software from other than the creators site it's like that someone has added their own code, which could have spyware, adware, malware or even a virus in it.
As a rule of thumb, check the size of the original software from the creators site to that from another sites before downloading or better still get it from the creators site and still scan it for viruses etc before installing.
