Connect laptop to lcd tv..

I have a Dell Inspiron 1440. The only monitor port it has is VGA. So I bought a VGA to HDMI cable so I could use my tv as a monitor. When I plug the cable in, switch the display from laptop to duplicate(laptop and projector) nothing comes up on the tv. Im stumped..

Anyone know anything I could try to make it work?

After reading this thread, http://www.opentechsupport.net/foru...pports-digital-signal-output-through-vga.html, I answered my own question. Looks like I should have done some more research before buying this cable because it will not work.
