Connect laptop to TV

Hi

I am trying to connect my phillips laptop to my 5o inch plasma tv. I have the hdmi leads which connect into my vga port on the computer.

All it says on the tv is no input signal when all the cables are connected.

Please can some one give me any advice on how i can get this to work??

what resolution are you using? and what resolutions can the TV support?
are you on the right channel?
