Connect printer to wireless router (ethernet)?

I was wondering if it is possible to connect my printer (HP 6310xi) to my wireless router. Both have ethernet ports so I will be using my ethernet cable.

I wanted to do this mainly because originally my printer is connected to my desktop and I am using print share, but I'm getting rid of the desktop so the print share will be gone, and I still want to be able to print wirelessly from my laptop.

Thanks.

If it has an ethernet port on it then it can be hooked up to a router or print server. Look in the owners manual on how to set it up with an ethernet cable.

follow this step by step procedure to setup printer to wireless router:
1. First connect the Printer to the Wireless Router by usb cable and switch on the Printer
2. Installl te printer drivers on all computers that are to have acces to the printer.
3. With each computer proceed as follows:
Open the Start Menu. Click on the Control Panel button. Click on Printer. Right click on your Printer Icon and click on Properties. Click on the Ports tab. Remove the tick from the Enable bidirectional support box. Click on add port, highlight Standard TCP/IP Port, and click on new port.

This will open the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard. Click on Next, Give in the IP for your Router, The port name will be filled out automatically

Click on Next. Vista will try to find your printer. Wait for this to fail and click on Custom in the new window and then on settings

In the new window check that Raw and port number 9100 is selected. Click on OK, Next, Finish, Close, Apply and Close.

Good luck
Kevin
