connect to remote computer

Hi everyone, happy to be here at this forum :)

at the moment, I've been looking for any software (if possible freeware/shareware, or anything free trial) to connect remotely other computer through internet. :confused:

unlike VPN dialup, those remote computers are standalone PC, and not server networking. does anyone know any?

realvnc is the best, but make sure you download the latest version, because the previous version had a password exploit that made it REALLY easy for someone to take control of your computer. also, if you are going to set up a remote server, make sure you have a good firewall
 
well for real vnc you need to be inside the network unless you memorise your ip address and have a port open. if he if/does realvnc will work
 
do you know of one that you dont need to memorize your IP to connect from outside the network? and even if you are inside the network, you still need to know the subnet IP to use realvnc...

does logmein.com have another way of connecting to your computer without needing to know an IP address, because that would be cool

well yes, but 10.10.6.10 is easer then 25.467.238.123 :P. But what logmein or gotomypc is uses software on the computer to conncet to a main server and then you connect to logmein and it will rought you to your computer
 
thank you everyone for sharing info. I'm more than happy to try all those recommended. hopefully i can find what I really need.

just for your additional info of my case, since I moved 2 months ago and stayed in other city, I still have to be responsible and take control a computer in my brother small shop (in my home city). before moving, I helped him to instal POST software, and although I'm away, i'd like to oversee if there were wrong data posting, and same time giving lesson "how-to" to users there by driving their mouse moving under my control.

I tried to use remote software for window-based, i.e remote desktop from windows, PC anyware, and connect through VPN... but all these are not really right for my need.
