Connecting 2 cpus to gain internet connection

I have looked fairly thouroughly on the internet for help with this but found nothing. I have 2 desktop computers, one is a 64 bit windows 8 w/wireless lan (wifi) and a 32 bit windows xp (media center eddition) I would like to hookup my win xp to my win 8 via broadband cable aka lan cable so that my win xp gains internet like a shared connection. Can someone help me accomplish this? Long story short I want my win xp to share my win 8 wifi since my win xp does not have wlan:confused::(

You could port out and run one computer as a router so to say.. But you'd have to get the hardware, partition a harddrive and run a server software.

Improved quality of internet? Impossible to do running through another machine. Best connection you're gonna get is straight out of your modem.

If the computer with XP doesn't have a WLAN connection then you will need a WIFI USB stick.

I really don't understand what you are trying to accomplish. I was thinking ICS, but that may not be what you want.

I once ran a desktop off a laptop's WIFI connection using a crossover cable and ICS.

What does CPUs have to do with Internet? When you say CPU do you mean PC? Like a computer?

Just to understand you correctly, you have two PCs, the Windows 8 device has an internet connection via Wi-Fi and the XP machine currently doesn't have internet, so you want to connect it to your Windows 8 PC, correct?

First the obvious, why don't you just hook up your XP PC to your router? You could connect the two PCs via a crossover cable if you want, but I don't see why you would want to do that. No special software required.

As stated above, just use one of the free LAN ports on the router.

If you only have a modem, buy a router.

Yes this is what I am trying to accomplish but I can't hook up my xp to the router because it's my dads and it's in his office and the modem is also in there basically I know it's possible what I'm trying to do but I don't know how to do it.

I can't buy a router are you crazy man? That would be expensive.

I actually figured it out, thanks guys. Basically I hooked (or rather connected) to my wireless router (internet source) then shared with Ethernet, and connected to an Ethernet hub, any computer hooked up to that hub got internet. BUT! I want to plug my own router into the hub, do I plug the Ethernet hub into the routers internet jack or just one of the main Ethernet jacks.

I seriously hope you aren't using a hub, what you want is a switch. You can connect the router to the switch by using any of the LAN ports from your router, to any port on the switch. You can then connect any device to that switch.
