Connecting Laptop to LCD TV via VGA

I am having a little issue trying to set my LCD TV as my main monitor for my laptop using a VGA cable. My laptop is running WinXP with a Nvidia 7400go series graphics card, it also supports dual monitors.

When I set the TV to the VGA input and hit my NVidia display properties to try to set my TV as the main monitor I get no signal from the laptop to the TV. Now if I shut both the TV and laptop off and start my TV then my laptop I get a signal and it displays the WinXP loading screen. As soon as my desktop loads however, I lose signal with the TV.

Anyone know of any solutions to this? I am thinking something to do with the NVidia's NView software being funky, any suggestions?

It's most likely a resolution issue. Is your LCD TV 720p or 1080p compatible? If so, then you would need to change the resolution in your display settings prior to connecting and setting the TV as the primary display.

Excellent point, which I did not think of. It is a 720p, what resolution should I try?

TV Out can something be a real pain to get to work... Check your manual to see what resolution your TV supporst via VGA input. Mine is 1024x768 if I remember correctly (it's not widescreen through VGA...) Now if you have HDMI/DVI, you may be able to go higher. Mine's only 720p, but it can display 1080 (scaled down, I'm sure...)
